Arson vs firebombed
There is a link named firebombed that goes to the Wikipedia page for arson, which has no mention of firebomb in the article, creating confusion. 24.22.160.190 (talk) 15:09, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- I can see why there might be some confusion. I've adjusted that text in the first paragraph. The problem was that Firebombing is considered a military tactic. If this article linked to the Wikipedia article on Firebombing, that article only considers military usage, with its first paragraph stating:
- Firebombing is a bombing technique designed to damage a target, generally an urban area, through the use of fire, caused by incendiary devices, rather than from the blast effect of large bombs. In popular usage, any act in which an incendiary device is used to initiate a fire is often described as a "firebombing".
- And then there's the article's disambiguation statement:
- This article is about aerial incendiary bombing as a military tactic. For non-military (almost always criminal) acts, see Arson.
- When we go over to the Arson article, it lead section says:
- Arson is the act of willfully and deliberately setting fire to or charring property. ... A person who commits arson is referred to as an arsonist, or a serial arsonist if the person has committed arson several times. Arsonists normally use an accelerant (such as gasoline or kerosene) to ignite, propel, and direct fires,
- Kehoe was definitely an arsonist and committed arson, when he set fires at his farm, killing his horses and destroying the house and the farm's other buildings. So, like I said above, I've adjusted that particular text. Now, in the infobox the term "Firebombs" is used and that isn't quite icorrect because that linking goes to the Incendiary devices article. The perpetrator had fires that were set up to go off at a particular time because they were connected to alarm clocks, so that is defined technically as a incendiary device but I've adjusted some of the other text & added a note to forestall any possible future confusion.- Shearonink (talk) 19:23, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
