I have tried to do a bit of cleanup, removing the worst bits (the Dutchess of Schlut? Yeah, right...) and checking a few facts. I don't have a local history available to question the bit about slavery and the founding, although it sounds a little dubious to me. --Brianyoumans 08:37, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Was this directly copied from somewhere?
- Yes. It's a slightly edited and uncredited ripoff from this: "AVON, 1830-2005, A BRIEF HISTORY" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.235.217.14 (talk) 17:03, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
The name “Avon” in 1830 cannot be derived from “County Avon” in England, since that was not created until 1974. 80.229.4.222 (talk) 15:31, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Content and Tone
Perhaps another Wikipedian could comment on whether it is appropriate to characterize a town as "affluent" in the lead paragraph.
The questions that come to mind immediately are:
- Affluent compared to what? or by whose standards?
- What authority has declared that this is an "affluent" town?
I am not a resident of Avon, nor have I ever lived there. I was searching the town through Google, which uses the lead paragraph of the article in its own capsule descriptions. Bikerbudmatt (talk) 21:29, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2637562/Teachers-Connecticut-indoctrinated-familys-daughters-cult.html This article about an alleged cult is from the Daily Mail and its reliability is therefore suspect, but if coverage by a reliable source can be found, the incident might be enough to establish notability.
