A separate Milwaukee Braves article
Please see the WikiProject Baseball talk page for discussion involving the creation of a separate Milwaukee Braves article. Spesh531(talk, contrib., ext.) 16:24, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
Short Description Location
Team locations in short descriptions have always been written as the city they’re located and based in. For example the Texas Rangers aren’t listed as based in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, but in Arlington, Texas, in their short description. The same goes for the Tampa Bay Rays. So the Braves short description should read “based in Cumberland, Georgia” to be uniform with the other 29 MLB teams. 2600:1005:B0AA:1317:D435:3CA7:570A:47BF (talk) 20:57, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- Arlington is a city as is St. Pete, FL. Cumberland is an unincorporated community that's in Cobb County. These scenarios are not comparable. There isn't a policy that I'm aware of that says this article has to follow those two articles. The stable lead sentence says the team is based in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The short description should match. I'm fine if there's a consensus to state otherwise. Nemov (talk) 21:29, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- It’s not the exact same as a municipality but it’s still a fair comparison. I’m not talking about following those two articles specifically, but following the same consistency that they and all the other MLB teams do: having their location in the short description. And to your last point if that’s the case, then the Rays and Rangers are violating the short description as well because of the lead sentences in their articles. All 30 teams should all have the same format. Otherwise change the other articles’ short descriptions. 2601:C2:1:6ABE:30A7:540:71AD:E2B6 (talk) 21:40, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
- There's nothing saying all MLB team articles need to be consistent, especially in a short description, which most readers will never see anyway. Metro Atlanta is far more useful in a short description than Cumberland, which will be meaningless without context. BilCat (talk) 00:39, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Also, Cumberland is a somewhat common name in Tennessee, Virginia and various other places (see Cumberland (disambiguation)#United_States) too. -Fnlayson (talk) 00:48, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- That’s why the state is also provided. All these points are moot and don’t warrant the location being written instead of the metro area. No other team article page follows that logic. 2601:189:4082:D9A0:86C:3D46:B39F:E977 (talk) 05:51, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- I meant the other way around but the point still stands. Doesn’t warrant the metro area over the more precise location. 2601:189:4082:D9A0:86C:3D46:B39F:E977 (talk) 05:58, 11 February 2025 (UTC)

- There is context; the state that the community is located in. Same as all the other MLB pages that may have common city names; like Arlington, TX for the Rangers. I still believe as an encyclopedia uniformity is important. It adds proper structure. Doesn’t matter if every single reader won’t see the short description. If that’s the case why bother writing them in the first place? 2601:189:4082:D9A0:86C:3D46:B39F:E977 (talk) 05:50, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- You've made those points already, and they've been rejected. There is no consensus here to change the wording. BilCat (talk) 06:40, 11 February 2025 (UTC)

- IP editor, if you keep making this same change on this on the article your could face an IP block. Please stop. Nemov (talk) 03:06, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- Ok I know it’s been a minute, but this is still funny/awkward wording. Metro Atlanta is not the official name of any city or municipality of any type. Even when we post links in opening sentences the Wikipedia rule is to type them out as their article title; e.g. the Charlotte Hornets opening sentences says “…based in Charlotte, North Carolina.” As opposed to just Charlotte. So for this description it should only say Metro Atlanta and forgo the state. There’s only one metro area named so after all. 2601:189:4082:D9A0:E05E:B300:F062:A208 (talk) 00:37, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
