Items to include in this article
There are several topics that should be included in an article about the Santa Fe:
- What was the railroad's original charter?
- Who was involved in creating the railroad?
- What were the railroad's principal routes?
- Describe the railroad's relationships with the Indian cultures along its route
- Describe the railroad's relationship with the Harvey House chain of restaurants/hotels
- Maybe mention the song, made famous by Judy Garland
- The Santa Fe and the Southern Pacific were part of a failed merger in the 1980s, the SPSF (which has since come to stand for Shouldnt Paint So Fast).
- There are many interesting stories of railbuilding competition through the Rockies between the Santa Fe, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific and Rio Grande railroads.
- The Santa Fe has been a leader in intermodal transportation between Southern California ports and the Midwest
- Significant acquisitions such as the Toledo, Peoria & Western
- Named passenger trains, such as the Super Chief, have become a part of American culture—Preceding unsigned comment added by Slambo (talk • contribs) 11:18, 22 September 2004 (UTC)

Paint schemes & markings
Not sure my experiment (displaying the names of colors in color, i.e. dark blue, yellow, etc.) works. Is there any way to make the lighter colors render so that they are readable?--Lordkinbote 09:25, August 21, 2005 (UTC)
- I was just thinking that yellow is a little hard to read against a white background. I'm tempted to say that we shouldn't use colors on the text, but let me mull over the idea a little more first. B-) slambo 15:20, August 21, 2005 (UTC)
- The fact that there are color photos and/or links that depicts each of the color schemes ("worth a thousand words") does make the use of colored text in this instance less necessary.--Lordkinbote 17:39, August 21, 2005 (UTC)
Links removed due to blacklisting
I've removed two items from the References list that I originally added there last year. The site where the information came from has been blacklisted due to spamming. We should easily be able to verify information from the other numerous references listed here (aside: we need to work on adding inline citations to this article anyway). See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam#Suite101 dot com for more information. Slambo (Speak) 17:58, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Just wondering if anyone is familiar with where I might find promotional items for the Santa Fe Railroad. It seems that all I can locate is posters of Railroads. Where would someone look for collector type stuff? Hope I am within the perameters of purpose of this site. I am totally new and would not be offended if I was told this is not your purpose here, but didn't know where else to start.--Intostuff214 (talk) 02:51, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- Collectibles from ATSF passenger service show up regularly on Ebay: Playing cards, ash trays, brochures, dining car menus etc. Kokopelli-UK (talk) 14:50, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
P&SF
Hoi, I miss the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway in the list of merged companies. Does anyone have enough information to include it? I'm not sure when the status changed from operating to non-operating. It was certainly still an operating subsidiary in the 20ies. --Thogo (Talk) Some thoughts about enwiki 11:40, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Atchison, Kansas
Did the railroad start in Atchison, Kansas, or go there eventually? Article says it started in Topeka, not Atchison. --DThomsen8 (talk) 18:26, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, the line from Atchison to Topeka was the first part that opened, still under the name Atchison and Topeka Railroad. --Thogo (Talk) 18:15, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
David B. Jones Special
Corrected the cities. It ran from LA to Chicago and then moved to Lake Forest, IL. Added article on it as well. RalphOnTheRailroad (talk) 23:58, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Am looking for work history worked for a Santa Fe. employee in about 1940"s
I am looking for info on Richard Rose worked as a City Freight Agent in Los Angeles in about 1940's. His son of same name may have also worked for Santa Fe. Can you tell me where I can go to get the info I would like?? Marcia Loomis marcia520@sbcglobal.net — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.36.17.112 (talk) 16:42, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
Warfare Analogies?
Right now, the word choice in the history section makes the early days of the Santa Fe sound like a literal war (passes were "captured", land was "held"). While I realize that there are analogies between early railroad expansion and warfare, I think this section could be rewritten to read more like an encyclopedia and less like some kind of romantic vision of railroads going to war. Expansion of History
I found out that much of the history section of the article focused on the 19th century and late in the 20th century. I believe we need to add more info in that "gap", covering the Santa Fe in the 20th century. Ctempire (talk) 16:43, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Inconsistent italics/quotation marks
The various types of livery/paint schemes mentioned throughout the article are inconsistently placed in quotation marks or written in italics. Could someone who knows which format is correct adjust the format of the mentions for consistency? --Nicholas0 (talk) 02:04, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
Deleted history section
Re the To-do list at top of this page, I note that there was previously a fairly detailed history section, which appears to have been deleted wholesale (939 bytes) by 47.157.116.151, on 14 October 2021, with the comment: The content refers to "Atlas Shrugged" and no to the Santa Fe Railway. The railroad's Wikipedia page is being used to promote the book. Does this make any sense? From what I know of ATSF history, the deleted bits seem to be pretty accurate. Kokopelli-UK (talk) 14:03, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- The history section was copied from a book and had to be removed for that reason. I was the one who removed it, not the IP. It cannot be restored because it is copied from another source. This article will need a newly written history section. Trainsandotherthings (talk) 23:41, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for quick response. My mistake re the deletion date and deleter; I had checked random dates to narrow down when it occurred, and embarrassingly, managed to miss your own deletion date of a few days earlier.
- I'm rather astonished that for 27 months, no one else seems to have commented on the missing history, let alone contributing to it! Regards, Kokopelli-UK (talk) 20:50, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway → Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway – Two commas are better than one in my opinion. 2600:1700:6180:6290:DAB:EAC:5F5C:2EB3 (talk) 23:03, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose The existing title is what the company was named. Your personal preference for another comma is irrelevant. Trainsandotherthings (talk) 01:12, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose move. Sources don't tend to use the Oxford comma when naming this railway. O.N.R. (talk) 02:04, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. This is a proper name and doesn't use the Oxford comma. Mackensen (talk) 04:17, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per Trainsandotherthings, O.N.R. and Mackensen. The name of this railroad does indeed use only a single comma. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 01:03, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per all above. -- Necrothesp (talk) 17:02, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
