I have redirected field day and Field Day to the specific section here. If anyone ever comes up with enough material for another article, please update those links. Thanks. Quill 21:34, 30 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

to merge or not to merge

The result of this discussion was Do not merge

It has been suggested that "State fair" be merged into this article.

  • oppose merge. Ag show implies corn and vegetables. Livestock shows are strictly animals.
  • Strongly oppose This is a terrible idea, and whoever suggested it hasn't discussed why. State fairs were first created in the 19th century, when the U.S. was still a predominantly agrarian society. As it became more industrial in the 20th century, the fairs adapted to this to the point where today, they are cultural events, including entertainment, auto racing, amusement, and more. This merge would be inappropriate. State fair may be a bit thin (little more than a list), but the remedy is developing it, not effectively burrying it somewhere else. Since the suggestion is so old, I will be bold, close this, and remove the tags. JustinTime55 (talk) 16:15, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Royal shows

I'm not sure what the point is of the distinction between the lists of "Royal" shows and "Other" shows in this article. If it's merely "shows with/without 'Royal'" in their title" then firstly that's a trivial distinction, apparent from the name itself, and secondly three of the shows in the "Royal" list (Great Yorkshire Show, Tendring Hundred Show and Cloone Agricultural Show) shouldn't be on that list as there's no "Royal" in the name. If there's some other attribute that makes a show "Royal" ("visited by royalty at some time?") then firstly the article should make this clear and secondly that should be sourced, for example this.

I propose merging these two lists and breaking out into a separate List of Agricultural Shows. Tonywalton Talk 09:29, 4 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • I believe that the merging of the show list and The Royal show list is well past due. As said above, the only distinction between the two lists is the addition of the appellation/honourific Royal. Van Dieman (talk) 06:04, 26 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I believe the term "Royal" is used too indicate that a show is sponsored or arranged by the Royal Agricultural Society, and not due to any specific royal connection.82.34.107.136 (talk) 20:37, 30 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Here again the word Royal is an honourific conferred by the Monarch. There is no substantive difference in form or function, other than in name, between an Agricultural Society and a Royal Agricultural Society. Van Dieman (talk) 06:04, 26 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Merge proposal

There's an entirely unreferenced County show article that describes agricultural shows in the UK. It's best merged (or redirected) to here, perhaps to the UK section. A few images and the external link might be helpful, but the prose is entirely unreferenced. Klbrain (talk) 16:03, 1 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Support. Also, before I even opened County show, I was thinking that the list at the bottom of Agricultural show might be cut down in some way. When I went to the former article and realized that it was geography-specific, I realized that one could use the merging of the two articles as an excuse to cut down some of the chaff at the bottom and really make it valuable to our readers.
