Wagner's Ring Cycle 1998 not the first production in Australia

This was widely touted as the first time the Ring had ever been staged in Australia, with huge hype. But it wasn't the first. According to Erik Irvin's Dictionary of the Australian Theatre 1788-1914, the Ring was performed in Her Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne in August 1913. The dates are:

  • Das Rheingold: 19 August
  • Die Walkure: 22 August
  • Siegfried: 25 August
  • Gotterdammerung: 29 August.

He gives no details of the performers, orchestra, conductor etc. Is there any reason why these performances shouldn't supplant Adelaide's claim? -- JackofOz (talk) 01:30, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

No reason? I've amended the text accordingly. -- Jack of Oz [Talk] 08:31, 23 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
