Merge with Haliotis page?
Should the Abalone page and the Haliotis page be merged? They seem to deal with the same topic.
(I found this out when I wanted to learn the French word for Abalone and was surprised there was no French page linked from the English one. Turns out the French page Haliotis is linked to the English page Haliotis, so it can't link to the English Abalone page as well.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arshwana (talk • contribs) 17:31, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
Russian version "Морские ушки" should be linked to this page as well, It should be renamed to Abalone/Haliotis. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.130.45.236 (talk) 16:00, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

channel islands
The use of "Channel Islands" caught me for a minute, as I came to this page from Guernsey, "ormer" (redirected to abalone), where it is a delicacy. --2607:FEA8:D5DF:F3D9:1CFD:643F:358D:3A22 (talk) 13:09, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
Merge proposal
The genus Haliotis is entirely equivalent to abalone in scope. Having two articles dedicated to the same topic is redundant, and should be avoided per Wikipedia guidelines, particularly Wikipedia:Content forks. Hemiauchenia (talk) 01:34, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- Support. "Haliotis" and "abalone" are different names for the same thing. Per WP:NOTDICT, different names for the same thing do not merit separate articles. Ornithopsis (talk) 01:46, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- Support. Abalone per WP:COMMONNAME. Zefr (talk) 02:14, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- Support. Abalone, as Zefr suggests. MeegsC (talk) 12:54, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Irrespective of the final title, if a merge goes through it should be to the page currently called Abalone, as that has the more extensive edit history. CMD (talk) 01:25, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
