Scoil Mhuire, is an Irish co-educational post-primary school in Clane, County Kildare. The school is on the western outskirts of Clane, off the Prosperous Road (the R403).

The school operates the Transition Year, the Leaving Cert Applied, and the Leaving Cert Vocational Programs. The school offers the subjects DCG, Construction Studies, and Engineering in the practical department, Business Studies, Economics, and Accounting in the Business department, and Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Agricultural Science in the Science department, the school also offers Home Economics, Religion (although not as an examinable subject), Music, the mandated subjects at Leaving Certificate (English, Irish, and Maths) and either French or German as modern foreign languages,[1] although MFLs are no longer treated separately from other option subjects in Leaving Certificate in the school, with students having the option not to study one if they wish.Script error: No such module "Unsubst". Adult education is promoted at Scoil Mhuire, which is one of the largest adult education schools in the country.[2]

History

Originally founded as a girls' school, the first boys entered the secondary school in 1967 and it has continued to expand its enrollment numbers and its campus.[2] It became a community school in 1983 after the opening of a new building and an additional expansion was, along with a new gym hall completed in September 2001.[2] The school is run by a Board of Managers, which is composed of 10 trustees, teachers, and parents who have been elected to the Board.[2]

On 8 April 2016 enrollment was over 1000 students(with a roughly 50:50 ratio of boys and girls, aged 12 to 18) and a teaching staff of more than 70.[3] As of 2024, these numbers have increased to over 1200 students and more than 80 staff.[2]

In May 2022, the school was fined €20,000 for the unfair firing of an educator for gross misconduct.[4]
