Osów is a municipal neighbourhood of the city of Szczecin, Poland[1] situated on the left bank of Oder river, north-west of the Szczecin Old Town and Downtown, in Zachód (West) District. As of January 2011 it had a population of 3,417.[2]

History

The area became part of the emerging Duchy of Poland under its first ruler Mieszko I around 967,[3][4] and following Poland's fragmentation in 1138, it formed part of the Duchy of Pomerania. In 1277, the settlement, known as Wussow in German, was purchased by the city of Szczecin.[5] During the Thirty Years' War, the settlement fell to the Swedish Empire but stayed part of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. Later on, it passed to Prussia. In 1945, the area became part of Poland.
