NRC, previously called Script error: No such module "Lang". (Script error: No such module "IPA".), is a daily morning newspaper published in the Netherlands by Mediahuis NRC. It is widely regarded as a newspaper of record in the country.

History

Script error: No such module "Lang". was first published on 1 October 1970 after a merger of the Amsterdam newspaper Script error: No such module "Lang". (founded 1828 by J.W. van den Biesen) and the Rotterdam Script error: No such module "Lang". (founded 1844 by Henricus Nijgh).[1] The paper's motto is Script error: No such module "Lang". – Light (referring to the Age of Enlightenment) and Freedom.

Editor Template:Ill was succeeded on 12 December 2006, by Template:Ill.[2] After a dispute with the new owners, Donker had to step down on 26 April 2010[3] and was replaced by Belgian Template:Ill.[4] In 2019, he was succeeded by René Moerland.[5]

On 7 March 2011, the paper changed its format from broadsheet to tabloid. The circulation of Script error: No such module "Lang". in 2014 was 188,500 copies, putting it in 4th place among the national dailies.[6]

In 2015 the NRC Media group was acquired by the Belgian company Mediahuis.[7]

In 2022, when it stopped producing evening editions, the paper shortened its official name to NRC, by which it had already been known colloquially.

While they consider themselves one of the Dutch national "quality" newspapers next to Script error: No such module "Lang". and Script error: No such module "Lang"., Script error: No such module "Lang". sees itself as the most internationally oriented of those three, and has been labeled left-liberal.Script error: No such module "Unsubst". The Script error: No such module "Lang". was an influential Amsterdam-based liberal daily newspaper published between 1828 and 1970. It was founded in 1828[1] by J.W. van den Biesen, a stockbroker.[8] The paper aimed at providing news about trade, share holding and banking.[8] Later its coverage was expanded to cover political news.[8]

At the peak of its influence—from the time of the Boer War, when it championed the Boer cause in South Africa, through World War I—it was edited by Charles Boissevain. The paper had a liberal stance.[1]
