Munchhausen (Script error: No such module "IPA". or Script error: No such module "IPA".;[2] Template:Langx) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Grand Est in north-eastern France.[3] It lies at the outflow of the Sauer into the Rhine.[4]
Geography
Munchhausen is a commune located in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region of northeastern France. Situated at the confluence of the Sauer and Rhine rivers, it lies within the Petit Ried, a natural region characterized by its floodplain meadows and wetlands. The commune encompasses an area of 5.92 square kilometers, with elevations ranging from 106 to 142 meters above sea level. It is bordered to the east by the Rhine River, which serves as a natural boundary with Germany, and to the west by the foothills of the Northern Vosges. The village is divided into two distinct parts: the upper village, built on a promontory overlooking the old bed of the Rhine, and the lower village, situated on the former riverbed and protected by high-water dikes. Munchhausen is part of the intercommunality of the Plaine du Rhin and is approximately 55 kilometers north of Strasbourg.[5][6]
