Lehr is a town in Logan and McIntosh counties in the State of North Dakota. The population was 81 at the 2020 census.[1] Lehr was founded in 1898.

History

The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, particularly the Dakota Sioux, before European settlers began moving into the region in the late 1800s.

Lehr is named after Christian Lehr, a prominent early settler in the area. Lehr was established during a time when the Northern Pacific Railway extended its tracks through the region, which helped promote settlement and the development of towns along the rail line.

Lehr was founded in 1898, like many towns in North Dakota, as part of the wave of European immigration and the development of the agricultural economy in the region.

Geography

Lehr is located on a county line with the north part of the town in Logan County and the south part in McIntosh County.

2010 census

As of the census of 2010, there were 80 people, 50 households, and 24 families residing in the town. The population density was Script error: No such module "convert".. There were 50 households, of which 4.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% were married couples living together, and 52.0% were non-families. 46.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 34% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.60 and the average family size was 2.13.

The median age in the city was 70 years. 2.5% of residents were under the age of 18; 5.1% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 5.1% were from 25 to 44; 28.9% were from 45 to 64; and 58.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 52.5% male and 47.5% female.

The average household size was 1.75 and the average family size was 2.24.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 6.1% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 16.7% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 44.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 63 years. For every 100 females, there were 90.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.1 males.
