Horn (Script error: No such module "IPA".) is a district in the borough Hamburg-Mitte, in the eastern part of Hamburg, Germany. In 2020 the population was 37,903.
History
Horn was first mentioned in historical documents in the 14th century as a rural village near Hamburg.[1] Over the centuries, the area gradually urbanized, especially with the expansion of Hamburg in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
During World War II, Horn was heavily affected by the Allied air raids in 1943 as part of Operation Gomorrah. Much of the district was destroyed, and reconstruction in the post-war period significantly changed the architectural landscape.[2]
Geography
Horn is located in the eastern part of the city of Hamburg and belongs to the Hamburg-Mitte borough. In 2006 according to the statistical office of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, the quarter had a total area of Script error: No such module "convert".. To the north you will find the district of Marienthal, part of the Wandsbek borough, and the district of Billstedt is located to the east. To the west are the districts of Hamm-Nord, Hamm-Mitte and Hamm-Süd; to the south is the district of Billbrook.
Horn includes several green areas, including parts of the Horner Park and allotment garden colonies, which are popular recreational spaces for residents.[3][4] The Horner Rennbahn, a historic horse racing track, is a notable landmark in the southern part of the quarter.[5]
Demographics
In 2007 the population of the Horn quarter was 36,890. The population density was Script error: No such module "convert".. 15.5% were children under the age of 18, and 17.9% were 65 years of age or older. 22.5% were immigrants. 2,765 people were registered as unemployed.[6] In 1999 there were 19.604 households, and 51% of all households were made up of individuals. The average household size was 1.82.[7]
In 2007 there were 4,237 criminal offences (115/1000 people).[8]

Recent figures from the Statistical Office for Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein indicate that Horn has continued to grow steadily in population. As of 2020, the number of inhabitants reached 37,903. The demographic structure remains diverse, with a considerable proportion of residents having a migration background.[9]
Culture and Community
Horn hosts several cultural events and community initiatives throughout the year. The Horner Freiheit community center offers various cultural, educational, and social activities.[10] Religious diversity is reflected in local places of worship, including Protestant, Catholic, and Muslim communities.
Economy and Housing
Horn is mainly a residential district with a mix of apartment blocks and terraced houses. Retail and service businesses are concentrated along the Horner Landstraße. The housing market in Horn is considered affordable compared to central Hamburg, making it attractive to young families and immigrants.[11]

Education
In 2006 there were 5 elementary schools and 5 secondary schools in Horn totalling 3,894 pupils.[12]
Sport
The Deutsches Derby is a Group 1 flat horse race at the Hamburg-Horn Racecourse, the Horner Rennbahn, scheduled to take place each year in July.[13]

Health systems
In 2007 there were 16 day-care centers for children, 44 physicians in private practices and 8 pharmacies.[8]
Transportation
Horn is serviced by the rapid transit system of the underground railway with the stations: Horner Rennbahn and Legienstraße (line U2 since the Change of the Lines). According to the Department of Motor Vehicles (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt), there were 9,310 private cars registered (252 cars/1000 people) in Horn in 2007 with 131 traffic accidents being recorded.[8]

Achim Reichel (b. 1944), musician and producer, spent part of his early life in Horn.
Heinz Reincke (1925–2011), actor known for his work in German film and television.
