History

Highland Grove Township was named from its lakeside groves and its lofty elevation above the Red River valley.

As of the census of 2000, there were 304 people, 104 households, and 91 families residing in the township. The population density was . There were 112 housing units at an average density of . The racial makeup of the township was 98.36% White, 0.66% Native American, and 0.99% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.33% of the population.

There were 104 households, out of which 45.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.0% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 12.5% were non-families. 11.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 3.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
