Genesee is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP) located in and governed by Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is a part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of the Genesee CDP was 3,610 at the United States Census 2020.[1] The Golden post office (Zip code 80401) serves the area.[2]

Geography

Genesse is located in the foothills of the Front Range.

Demographics

2020 census

As of the 2020 census, Genesee had a population of 3,610. The median age was 54.2 years. 17.1% of residents were under the age of 18 and 29.7% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 100.8 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 100.5 males age 18 and over.[4][5]

0.0% of residents lived in urban areas, while 100.0% lived in rural areas.[6]

There were 1,532 households in Genesee, of which 22.7% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 67.8% were married-couple households, 14.2% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 14.2% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 20.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.[4]

There were 1,634 housing units, of which 6.2% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 0.6% and the rental vacancy rate was 4.2%.[4]

  • Buffalo Overlook - Home of Bison herd that is owned/maintained by the Denver Parks and Recreation in Genesee Park.
