Rationale for fair use in The Log from the Sea of Cortez

It is believed that the use of the image SteinbeckCortez.jpg in the article The Log from the Sea of Cortez qualifies as fair use because:

1. No free alternative exists or could be created.
2. It is use purely to illustrate the subject discussed.
3. It is of a promotional nature.
4. It is of much lower resolution than the original (copies made from it will be of very inferior quality).
5. It does not limit the rights of the copyright owner to market or sell the work in any way.
6. This image is used on various websites without accreditation, so its use on Wikipedia does not make it significantly more accessible or visible than it already is.
7. The image is being used in an informative way and should not detract from the original work.
