six panels on a single of a 112-page book collecting strips originally published in Evergreen Review (defunct magazine) 1965-66 |

low, unsuitable for high end reproduction. In particular, this image could not be used to make illegal copies |
| Purpose of use |
Illustration of the artist's work. Comics are a visual medium, and an encyclopedic understanding of a comics artist's work requires illustration of his or her work. This is an example of Springer's art style as exemplified in one of his best-known works. This groundbreaking-for-the-time collaboration with the writer Michael O'Donoghue is discussed in the article, as is the work's historical impact. This is one of two illustrations in the article, the other being from a straight, Comics Code-approved comic book. |

low, unsuitable for high end reproduction. In particular, this image could not be used to make illegal copies. The size here is the minimum necessary for readability of the text, an integral part of the satiric nature in this work depicting such otherwise easily misinterpreted images of Nazis and torture. |
| Purpose of use |
Illustration of article subject. Comics are a visual medium, and an encyclopedic understanding of a comics feature requires an illustration of that feature. This example depicts recurring elements of this particular strip — a Nazi villain, nudity and torture — the nature of which would be prone to misunderstanding and misinterpretation were they to be described by words alone. |
