At the Template:CensusAU, Elmore had a population of 776 and in the 2021 census Elmore had 867 people.[1][1]

History

In the 1840s a small settlement developed on the Campaspe River servicing pastoral runs. The post office opened on 1 January 1849 as Bertram's Inn. On 1 January 1850 it was renamed Campaspie (sic). In 1864 when the township was established the name became Runnymede and in around 1882 the name was changed again to Elmore.[2]

A Court of Petty Sessions opened at Elmore on 17 December 1965, despite its proximity to the then-existing court at Rochester. It closed on 1 January 1983, having sat for only 24 hours and heard 280 cases in 1981.[3]

Elmore today

The town today is has many shops and businesses, they have a Vintage Emporium, patchwork/craft shop, Miniature Railway, Op shop cafe caravan, pizza shop, bakery, the Victoria Hotel and the Shamrock Hotel, IGA super market, News agency, BP servo, post office, river walking track. Elmore has two schools, Elmore Primary School (EPS) who recently celebrated 150 years as a school and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Elmore (OLSH) the towns Catholic school. A recreation reserve containing a 25 meter swimming pool, Football ovel, bowling green, lawn tennis courts and a golf course. In the town for short term accommodation you could take lodgings at the Victoria Hotel or the Butcher Baker BNB. The town also sports a pharmacy and doctors surgery and multiple churches. Events in the town include the famous Elmore Field Days held every year on the first week of October, Elmore also has An annual BNS Ball and a tractor pull
