Cross City is a town and the county seat of Dixie County, Florida, United States.[1] The population was 1,689 at the 2020 census.

As of the census[7] of 2000, there were 1,775 people, 686 households, and 478 families residing in the town. The population density was Script error: No such module "convert".. The racial makeup of the town was 70.48% White, 27.27% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, and 1.41% from two or more races. In 2000, there were 686 households, out of which 34.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 21.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.3% were non-families. 27.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.04.
In 2000, in the town, the population was spread out, with 30.3% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 84.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.2 males.
