- Artists who created Early Netherlandish paintings — art produced from the 1420s until the late 16th century in the region of the Northern Netherlands and present day Belgium.
- This time period is also known as the late Middle Ages and Early Renaissance. Art from the Southern Netherlands in the same time frame is also known as Flemish, but as applied to a period of art, the term "Flemish" is now used by art historians for art produced after 1510 up to around 1800.
