Asen, also spelled Assin, was an Akan state in what is now Ghana from the 17th to the 19th century. Located south of Denkyira, it was often embroiled in wars over the coastal trade routes, particularly in the late 17th century.[1] In 1715, Assin overran the neighboring kingdom of Etsi (also known as Cabessterra).[2] By the early 1700s, Assin was closely allied with and largely dominated by the Fante Confederacy.[3]
