Mapleton is a city in Cass County, North Dakota, United States. It sits on the banks of the Maple River. The population was 1,320 at the 2020 census.[1] Mapleton serves as a bedroom community of the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area. The core cities are ten miles to the east of Mapleton.
History
Mapleton was platted in 1876, soon after the railroad was extended to that point.[2] The city took its name from the Maple River.[3] A post office has been in operation at Mapleton since 1875.[4]

The racial makeup of the city was 89.5% White, 2.0% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 0.8% from some other races and 6.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.3% of the population.[10]

There were 248 households, of which 51.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.6% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 12.9% were non-families. 8.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 1.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.07 and the average family size was 3.22.

The average household size was 3.17 and the average family size was 3.51.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 35.8% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 35.0% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 2.6% who were 65 years of age or older. Climate
This climatic region is typified by large seasonal temperature differences, with warm to hot (and often humid) summers and cold (sometimes severely cold) winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Mapleton has a humid continental climate, abbreviated "Dfb" on climate maps.[11]
