Mapleton is a city in Cass County, North Dakota, United States. It sits on the banks of the Maple River. The population was 1,320 at the 2020 census.[1] Mapleton serves as a bedroom community of the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area. The core cities are ten miles to the east of Mapleton. The Maple River's path runs right through the city, and that's how Mapleton got its name.

Mapleton was platted in 1876, soon after the railroad was extended to that point.[2] The city took its name from the Maple River.[3] A post office has been in operation at Mapleton since 1875.[4]

This climatic region is typified by large seasonal temperature differences, with warm to hot (and often humid) summers and cold (sometimes severely cold) winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Mapleton has a humid continental climate, abbreviated "Dfb" on climate maps.[11]
