The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Lexa has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.[2]

As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 331 people, 132 households, and 97 families residing in the city. The population density was Script error: No such module "convert".. The racial makeup of the city was 71.90% White, 26.28% Black or African American, 0.60% Native American, and 1.21% from two or more races.
There were 132 households, out of which 34.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.0% were married couples living together, 17.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.5% were non-families. 25.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the city the population was spread out, with 26.6% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who were 65 years of age or older. Education
The Barton–Lexa School District provides early childhood, elementary and secondary education to more than 800 students in prekindergarten through grade 12 at is two schools. Students complete their studies at Barton High School.
