It is perfectly clear from Aelian's text that what the Veneti are doing is a, naive and futile but an attempt nevertheless, crop protection. By feeding the jackdaws early in the sowing season, they hoped that the birds would leave the seed and the crops alone. There is no "cult" in that behaviour. The author of the nonsense obviously did not care to read Aelian's text.
