Whedon joined the crew of the [[HBO]] western drama &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Deadwood (TV series)|Deadwood]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; as an assistant to executive producer [[David Milch]] for the [[List of Deadwood episodes#Season 1 .282004.29|first season]] in 2004. The series was created by Milch and focused on a growing town in the American West.
