New page

"A linguistic computing project"

i started with a little thought experiment: how would two different translations by 2 different authors of a foreign text look under an algorithm. one algorithm would be diff.

Then, because copyright issues prevent this from happening (short of me scanning in 2 translations, doing OCR, (oh, and that means obtaining decent OCR which is also copyrighted........)

SO....... since that is not a reality. Here is a reality that tests the same hypothesis. My hyphothesis in some other words would be: how would 2 different documents that humans made decisions upon look under an algorithm. one algorithm would be diff.

Thus, with my realistic hypothesis in place, i present to you the challenge:

It is this diff algorithim on this wikipedia that i will initially use after this experiment. the experiment will involve you, the test subject to apply by hand an algorithm to 319 lines of text from a software project's changelog. The algorithm is as follows: categorize each line of text into 2 categories these two being changes to the core (specifically networking, configuration files and specifically NOT gui) and gui (specifically commandline interface, graphical interface). Now, until I do the test my . it is a changelog from a software project
