It was first mentioned in a written document in 1229. It lies approximately {{convert|2|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} south-west of [[Gorzyce, Silesian Voivodeship|Gorzyce]], {{convert|8|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} south-west of [[Wodzisław Śląski]], and {{convert|56|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} south-west of the regional capital [[Katowice]].
