The monastery, dedicated to Saints [[Lambert of Maastricht|Lambert]], [[John the Baptist]] and [[Saint George|George]], was founded in 1138 by [[Otto of Bamberg|Otto I]], [[Bishop of Bamberg]], as a double canonry of the [[Premonstratensian]]s.
