He was confirmed by the [[United States Senate]] on June 23, 1932, and received his commission on June 25, 1932. He served as Chief Judge from 1951 to 1959 and as a member of the [[Judicial Conference of the United States]] from 1957 to 1959. His service terminated on September 20, 1959, due to his elevation to the Third Circuit.<ref name="auto"/>
