Its four [[post town]]s are [[Chorley]], [[Leyland, Lancashire|Leyland]], [[Southport]], and [[Preston, Lancashire|Preston]].

Mail for the PR postcode area is processed at Preston Mail Centre, along with mail for the [[BB postcode area|BB]], [[FY postcode area|FY]] and [[LA postcode area|LA]] postcode areas.

The PR25 and PR26 districts were formed out of the PR5 district in January 2001.
