In 1868, the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Latin and English High School&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1831), later called the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Brown High School&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1851); the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Putnam Free School&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1838);&amp;lt;ref name=Adams1853&amp;gt;{{cite book|title= Massachusetts Register |year=1853 |author=George Adams |location=Boston |publisher=Printed by Damrell and Moore |chapter=Education in Massachusetts: Incorporated Academies |chapter-url= https://books.google.com/books?id=MScDAAAAYAAJ&amp;amp;pg=PA266 }}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; and the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Female High School&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1843) merged to form the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Consolidated High and Putnam School&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;.
