Parkhurst, who grew up in Rhode Island and played for CLCF Soccer and Bayside United, was in attendance at the inaugural home game for the [[New England Revolution]], in 1996.<ref name="futureisnow"/> Nine years later, on January 14, 2005, he was selected ninth overall in the [[2005 MLS SuperDraft]] by his hometown Revolution.
