James Chidester Egbert Jr. was born in [[New York City]] on May 3, 1859.&amp;lt;ref name=Universities&amp;gt;{{Cite book |url=https://archive.org/details/universitiesandt02cham/page/425/mode/1up |title=Universities and Their Sons |volume=II |editor-first=Joshua L. |editor-last=Chamberlain |publisher=R. Herndon Company |place=Boston |page=425 |date=1899 |access-date=2025-05-08 |via=Internet Archive}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; He graduated at [[Columbia University]] in 1881, and took a doctorate there in 1884. His works include an edition of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Macmillan&amp;#039;s Shorter Latin Course&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1892); &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Cicero de Senectute&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1895); &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Introduction to the Study of Latin Inscriptions&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1896);&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{cite book |author-last=Egbert Jr. |author-first=James C. |date=1896 |title=Introduction to the Study of Latin Inscriptions |publication-place=New York |publisher=[[American Book Company (1890)|American Book Company]] |url=https://archive.org/details/introductiontost00egbeuoft/page/n7}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Livy xxi and Selections from xxii to xxx&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1913). He also wrote a four-volume work &amp;#039;&amp;#039;American Business Practice&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1931).&lt;br /&gt;
