He previously served as [[Ministry of Agriculture (France)|Minister of Agriculture and Food]] in 2017 and [[Minister of Territorial Development (France)|Minister of Territorial Cohesion]] from 2017 to 2018. A member of the [[Radical Party of the Left]] (PRG), he was a [[Senate (France)|Senator]] representing the [[Cantal]] [[Departments of France|department]] from 2008 to 2017, and again from 2018 until 2019.&lt;br /&gt;

He left his position on 16 October 2018 to return to the Senate.
