Emison was laid out in 1867 for Samuel A. ==Geography==
Emison is located in northwestern Knox County. U.S. Routes [[U.S. Route 41|41]] and [[U.S. Route 150|150]], a four-lane highway, passes through the east side of the community, leading south {{convert|10|mi|0}} to [[Vincennes, Indiana|Vincennes]], the [[county seat]], and north {{convert|48|mi}} to [[Terre Haute, Indiana|Terre Haute]]. [[Indiana State Road 550]] leads southeast from Emison {{convert|4|mi|0}} to [[Bruceville, Indiana|Bruceville]].

According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], the Emison CDP has a total area of {{convert|4.1|sqkm|order=flip}}, of which {{convert|0.02|sqkm|order=flip|2}}, or 0.58%, are water.<ref name="Census 2010"/>
