He played for the [[Pittsburgh Pirates]], [[St. Louis Cardinals]], [[Cincinnati Reds]], and [[Boston Red Sox]]. Karger finished his career with a 48–67 [[Win–loss record (pitching)|win–loss record]] and a 2.79 [[earned run average]].
