'''Bongosso''' (or Bougounso) is a village and seat (''[[chef-lieu]]'') of the [[Koromo, Mali|commune of Koromo]] in the [[Koutiala Cercle|Cercle of Koutiala]] in the [[Sikasso Region]] of southern [[Mali]].<ref>{{citation |title=Communes de la Région de Sikasso |publisher=Ministère de l’administration territoriale et des collectivités locales, République du Mali |url=http://www.matcl.gov.ml/pdf/ComRegSikasso.pdf |language=French |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131203005558/http://www.matcl.gov.ml/pdf/ComRegSikasso.pdf |archive-date=3 December 2013 |url-status=dead }}.</ref> The village is {{cvt|45|km}} northeast of [[Koutiala]].

French explorer [[René Caillié]] stopped at Bongosso in February 1828 on his journey to [[Timbuktu]]. He was travelling with a [[Caravan (travellers)|caravan]] transporting [[kola nut]]s to [[Djenné]]. He described the village in his book ''Travels through Central Africa to Timbuctoo'' published in 1830.{{sfn|Viguier|2008|p=63}} He wrote:
