Benjamin Wisner Bacon was born in [[Litchfield, Connecticut]] on January 15, 1860. He graduated from [[Yale College]] in 1881 and [[Yale Divinity School]] in 1884.<ref name=Universities>{{Cite book |url=https://archive.org/details/universitiesandt02cham/page/236/mode/1up |title=Universities and Their Sons |volume=II |editor-first=Joshua L. |editor-last=Chamberlain |publisher=R. Herndon Company |place=Boston |pages=236–237 |date=1899 |access-date=2025-05-04 |via=Internet Archive}}</ref> After serving in pastorates at [[Old Lyme, Connecticut]] (1884–1889), and at [[Oswego, New York]] (1889–1896), he was made an instructor in New Testament Greek at Yale Divinity School and became in 1897 professor of New Testament criticism and exegesis. The degrees D.D., Litt.D., and LL.D. were conferred upon him.<br />
