The reef lies in Mexican waters {{convert|35|km}} offshore in the [[Caribbean Sea]], or about {{convert|80|km}} east of the city of [[Chetumal]]. It is approximately {{convert|40.2|km|mi}} long from north to south, and approximately {{convert|16|km|mi}} wide at its widest point. It covers an area of {{convert|800|km2}}. The atoll has three islands, with an aggregate land area of {{convert|6.7|km2}}:<br />
