He signed for [[Doncaster Rovers F.C.|Doncaster Rovers]] in September 1950, following his move from [[Bishop Auckland F.C.|Bishop Auckland]] and made his professional debut in [[Football League Second Division|Division Two]] on 14 April 1951 against [[Queens Park Rangers F.C.|Queens Park Rangers]]. In 1954, after three more seasons with the club, he moved to [[Gillingham F.C.|Gillingham]], where he only made seven appearances, scoring one goal.
