A close friend of [[Dale Evans]], she served as Evans&amp;#039; [[stunt double]] through most of her career. She was also a stunt double for [[Elizabeth Taylor]] in &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[National Velvet (film)|National Velvet]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. Her first film stunt work came in 1935 in [[Will Rogers]]&amp;#039; last film, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;In Old Kentucky&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. She had performed during the opening ceremony at the [[1932 Summer Olympics]] in [[Los Angeles]]. She also rode as a jockey, becoming the third woman ever to receive a trainer&amp;#039;s license for thoroughbred horses. On August 12, 1960, she married film director Robert G. &amp;quot;Bud&amp;quot; Springsteen. The couple&amp;#039;s only child, Norman Van Der Veen, died in 1993. Van-Springsteen died of [[pneumonia]] on September 13, 2008, aged 90, at [[Point Loma]] Convalescent Hospital.
