The assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of project-supported articles.  The resulting article ratings are used within the project to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work. The assessment is done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{tl|WPVANHALEN}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in a set of categories that serves as the basis for an automatically generated worklist.

==Guidelines==
The guidelines presented in this section are intended to be guidelines only; while they are well-suited for the vast majority of Van Halen articles, there exist a number of peculiar cases where, for lack of a better solution, alternate approaches can been taken.
