When you've made your recording, and are ready to upload, go to the '''[https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&uselang=en&uploadformstyle=basic&setlang=en upload]''' page on Wikimedia Commons.

==Step 1: Choose the filename==
The filename must be prefixed by "En-" to show that the recording is in English, followed by the article title in [[Help:Link#Conversion to canonical form|canonicalized]] form and finally the suffix "-article", as well as the <code>ogg</code> extension. An example would be: En-Sample lemma-article.ogg

==Step 2: Fill out the template==
Copy and paste [[Commons:Template:English spoken article|the following template]], and fill in the appropriate information. If you're unsure of what to say in each field, look below.

With the article you're narrating, go to its revision history. One of these list entries will correspond with the version of the article that you have read. This will most likely be the one at the top of the list, if nobody has made any edits since you accessed the page. The date and time, highlighted in bold characters in the above example, will be a link to a historical version of the article. Hover your mouse pointer over it, and you will see something like this: <blockquote><nowiki>https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia&oldid=889056170</nowiki></blockquote>

This is the link required in the spoken article template field.

==Step 2==
Right-mouse-click on this link, and from the menu that appears, select the option that copies the link itself into your clipboard.

*In Konqueror, Chrome and Opera, select <code>Copy link address</code>.

Return to the upload page where you're filling in the template fields, and using the paste command, copy the link from your clipboard to the space directly after the <code>|link_to_recorded_version=</code> parameter. This is usually accessed with a right-mouse-click.

In addition, if the recording is broken up into a '''number of parts''', you need to add a line or two to let listeners navigate to: 
#the first recorded part of the article, in case they start somewhere in the middle, and
#the next recorded part of the article, once they've listened to the current part.

The following should be added just below the <code>|sex=</code> parameter:
*For each part '''except the first''' (there's no need for the first file to link to itself), add <code>|first_part=En-Sample_1of''n''-article.ogg</code>.
*For each part except the last (since there would be no "next file" after the last), add <code>|next_part=En-Sample_''n''of''n''-article.ogg</code>.

==Step 3: Upload the file==
Uploaded files can be no larger than 100 mb. If your recording is larger than this, you will need to split it into multiple parts.

When the upload is finished and the file page appears, it's a good idea to add the page to your watch-list, as [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia/Review|reviews]] and discussion of your recording may be put there.
