Originally from Mountbellew,<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.hoganstand.com/Galway/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=48998|title=Galway's Val Daly:In a class of his own|publisher=Hoganstand.com|date=1991-06-21|access-date=2010-07-20}}</ref> Daly made his debut with the county side in the 1981 National League and played until the 1997 Championship season when he was player manager.{{Citation needed|date=November 2008}}

An All-Star in 1987 and 1990, Daly won five [[Connacht Senior Football Championship]] titles.
