I think the article should mention what is known as "Tate [[pairing]]", which I think is first described in ''J. Tate, "WC-pairings over p-adic fields", Sem. Bourbaki, no.156, 1957, p.13'', and later in "Applications of Galois Cohomology in Algebraic Structures" (1959). Tate pairings have important applications in [[identity-based encryption]] (cryptography). Does somebody know more about this? I would argue that there is no actual doubt about his death. The tweet was sourced to a very close friend (whose friendship is well documented: https://www.ams.org/journals/bull/2017-54-04/S0273-0979-2017-01576-5/S0273-0979-2017-01576-5.pdf). It has been announced by IHES (also on Twitter)> Personally, I received the information directly from a family member, and it has been announced by email to the Harvard community, as well as in a public space in the community where he was living. It's true that there has been no published obituary yet, but there is no one contesting the very sad fact of his passing.
