Do you know why, apart from John's initial encounter, that he was so unpopular with the Irish and possibly Anglo-Irish? "Theobald Walter, William De Burgh, Gilbert Pipard and Bertram De Verdon" were not English but Norman. English and Scottish Colonials went to Ireland in the Early 1600's as part of the Plantation.  As in England/Wales and Scotland the Normans became rulers/administators rather than large scale colonial settlement.
