Please upload images to commons (if possible), and add <nowiki>[[Category:Hurricane Dennis]]</nowiki> to them. It's not particularly obvious that "storm" links to [[tropical cyclone]] in the intro. Maybe we should change the text to "named [[tropical cyclone]]"? &mdash;&nbsp;[[User:Jdorje|jdorje]]&nbsp;<small>([[User_talk:jdorje|talk]])</small> 23:34, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

:Hmm, except that it may be wrong since subtropical cyclones get named too, in which case the link from "storm" is also wrong (or at least misleading). So maybe the "storm" link should just be dropped and the link should come from "hurricane". &mdash;&nbsp;[[User:Jdorje|jdorje]]&nbsp;<small>([[User_talk:jdorje|talk]])</small> 23:35, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

== Death toll ==

That indirect total may not be entirely accurate. It's source is a FEMA site that was made shortly after the disaster. Reports at that time were sketchy at best. We might want to find another, more recent source to back that up. The National Hurricane Center lists only the indirect toll for the US, which is twelve. -- <span style="font-size:small; font-family:Helvetica;">[[List of Atlantic hurricane seasons|<span style="color:gold;">§</span>]][[User talk: E. Is there a particular reason the new color filled rainfall image for Dennis was removed? == This is pretty impressive ==

Not only was Dennis the first major hurricane to strike the US prior to August since Audrey in '57, it was also the first major hurricane to strike the US in July since ''1916''. That's nearly 90 years without a major hurricane striking the US in July. Woodrow Wilson was president, the US was a year from entering WWI, women couldn't vote, daylight savings didn't exist and income tax was a new idea. That's pretty remarkable. == Idea - merge all of the sub-articles but the met. history? ==

{{Discussion top|result=The result was: '''merge all sub-articles.''' Users came to a consensus and as a result, OP went ahead with the merge. ~ '''[[User:Sandy14156|<span style="color:red;">Sandy</span>]][[Special:Contributions/Sandy14156|<span style="color:blue;">14156</span>]] ''<small>([[User talk:Sandy14156|<span style="color:orange;">Talk ✉️</span>]])</small>''''' 03:00, 10 August 2024 (UTC)}}

I took a look at this article, and it's a shame that it's only start-class, because most of the content only exists in the sub-articles (effects of Hurricane Dennis in...) - the sub-articles are mostly pretty good, which made me curious what it would look like if they were all combined. Presenting:

;[[Draft:Hurricane Dennis]]

With barely any editing, I combined all of the sub-articles and put the information in the respective sections. It's under 8,000 words, which is the point when you might want to split off an article. That's why I kept the met history out of it. That's easily the most scientific and wonky part of an article, but unless you're a meteorologist, you might not care about all of the minor twists and turns and why they happened. Otherwise, I think the proposed draft with all of the areas merged in looks very good, like how you'd expect a featured hurricane article to look. Does anyone have any thoughts? Pinging {{ping|Juliancolton}} since you wrote a few of the effects articles. I wanted to gauge some thoughts before formally proposing merging seven articles. ♫ [[User:Hurricanehink|Hurricanehink]] (<small>[[User_talk:Hurricanehink|talk]]</small>) 21:47, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

:'''Support''' - effects articles should be reserved for the most impactful and damaging storms (Sandy, Katrina, etc.) For a storm like Dennis, its page is kinda short since the majority of the impacts are in sub articles that were made in the 2000s. '''''[[User:MarioProtIV|MarioProtIV]]''''' ([[User talk:MarioProtIV|talk]]/[[Special:Contributions/MarioProtIV|contribs]]) 22:13, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
:<s>'''Support all except Florida and Jamaica''' since they have the most information with over 50 textual citations. The rest can and should be merged, but merging all of it does risk the article being overly bloated. ::Hey {{user|Downerr2937}}, check out the draft I posted. I included all of the info from both of those places. Parts that are bloated can always be rewritten a bit for organizational flow. Jamaica is only four paragraphs, and five for Florida. This is without having done almost any editing to any of the sections, other than combining a few sections. ♫ [[User:Hurricanehink|Hurricanehink]] (<small>[[User_talk:Hurricanehink|talk]]</small>) 23:52, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
:::<s>The draft is 48 kilobytes of prose, which is permitted by [[WP:SIZERULE]]. That being said, it also has [[WP:DUE]] weight problems, and while the Florida portion of it is fine, I think the Jamaica portion of it gives it undue weight compared to the impacts in Haiti. Thus, '''support a merger for all subarticles except [[Effects of Hurricane Dennis in Jamaica]]''', which I think should remain. ::::{{ping|Downerr2937}} - I reorganized the Jamaica information a bit, trimming it down to two paragraphs. Now that all of the sub-articles are merged, the Dennis article covers a lot more information. It's much better than where it was at before, but still could use work, such as:

Minor update. I finished redoing Florida's part of the impact section, so every link is now working, including a few from archived versions of websites. I think I'm going to continue with impacts and work my way backwards, trying to tackle Cuba. And then later on I'll do preps/aftermath. I've also realized that, with all of the effects sub-articles having similar types of impacts (federal disaster funding, FEMA resources), there'll be some overlap, so the aftermath should probably have more of a top-down focus on the national level, going across state lines, rather than going state by state. I'd also like to give a major kudos/thanks to {{user|Juliancolton}} for writing all of these articles in the first place, and doing all of that research for the storm's effects in the US. That's making this a lot easier than, say, [[Hurricane Stan]], which is still sitting in a tab in my browser because of all of the information still in need to be added ._. ♫ [[User:Hurricanehink|Hurricanehink]] (<small>[[User_talk:Hurricanehink|talk]]</small>) 23:00, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

:Awesome. Since there's not much for me to do with the article other than copyedits, which will best work after you finish expanding, I'll work on a different article ([[Hurricane Emily]]) and improve it since Wilma is virtually at FP class. (Maybe we can create a [[List of Category 5 Atlantic hurricanes]] FT, but now would not be a good time) <span style="font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:100%;color:#00008B;background-color:transparent;;CSS">[[User:Zzzs|ZZZ]][[User talk:Zzzs|'S]]</span> 23:29, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
::I agree Wilma is probably pretty close. I know {{user|12george1}} was working on that a bit, so he might have some insight what that article needs before a GAN. And I agree, a Cat 5 hurricane FT would be good down the road. If that got done, then getting all of the retired storms would be a lot more doable. ♫ [[User:Hurricanehink|Hurricanehink]] (<small>[[User_talk:Hurricanehink|talk]]</small>) 23:49, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

OK at this point I'm pretty happy with the article. I think most of the deadlinks are worth keeping, since I can't find another source for the same information, and it's good stuff for the most part. I therefore have nominated it for GAN. Thanks for the help so far {{user|Zzzs}}. ♫ [[User:Hurricanehink|Hurricanehink]] (<small>[[User_talk:Hurricanehink|talk]]</small>) 02:03, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

::I have a few tabs open in my browser, and found a lot of good sources. Just haven't had the time lately for the research/writing (I've been rehearsing for a show). :::Also, sorry for my reduced contributions to the topic. I've been busy trying to improve the articles listed in the [[List of Category 5 Atlantic hurricanes]] and the [[List of retired Atlantic hurricanes]] by asking {{noping|TheWxResearcher}}, a frequent uploader of tropical cyclone images, to upload new photos of the tropical cyclone during certain, often important, meteorological events (see [[Hurricane Dorian]] and its subarticles) to improve the article and image quality. <span style="font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:100%;color:#00008B;background-color:transparent;;CSS">[[User:Zzzs|ZZZ]][[User talk:Zzzs|'S]]</span> 23:23, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

Alright, once I can fix those NCDC links that are duplicated by accident (I must have put in the wrong links), then I will nom Dennis for FAC. ♫ [[User:Hurricanehink|Hurricanehink]] (<small>[[User_talk:Hurricanehink|talk]]</small>) 20:14, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

:Noted. I wish you the best of luck. Also, once you put it up for nomination, can you rewrite the Louisiana section in [[Effects of Hurricane Katrina in the Southeastern United States]] like I asked earlier? ::Ugggggggh, working on Katrina articles is like getting your teeth pulled. I'll get around to it eventually. Like I said, don't have the most amount of time now, and the LA section is a low priority considering there are tons of places to get info about Katrina in Louisiana, and it's gonna be a huge undertaking organizing all of the Katrina info. We still have to get through Rita, Stan, and Wilma. ♫ [[User:Hurricanehink|Hurricanehink]] (<small>[[User_talk:Hurricanehink|talk]]</small>) 21:53, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

== Retirement section ==

Dennis was removed from the list and replaced with [[List of storms named Don|Don]] for [[2011 Atlantic hurricane season|2011.]] So, I want to know why it doesn't say it was retired. [[User:Joseph Ca98|Joseph Ca98]] ([[User talk:Joseph Ca98|talk]]) 21:58, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
