The Ames Brothers version was recorded on December 5, 1949. The recording was released by [[Coral Records]] as catalog number 60140. The record first reached the [[Billboard magazine]] charts on January 20, 1950, and lasted for 27 weeks on the chart, peaking at No. 3. The song was part of a double-sided hit; the flip side was the even bigger hit, "[[Rag Mop]]".<ref name=Whitburn>
