'''Alexander Grimmond Davie''' (born 10 June 1945) is a Scottish former [[Association football|footballer]], who played as [[Goalkeeper (football)|goalkeeper]]. Davie spent most of his career with [[Dundee United F.C.|Dundee United]] and represented [[Scotland national under-23 football team|Scotland at under-23 level]] and [[New Zealand national football team|New Zealand]] at senior level.

In 1967, [[Ted Bates (footballer)|Ted Bates]] tried to sign Davie for £15,000 but the offer was rejected. He eventually joined [[Southampton F.C.|Southampton]] in May 1970 (for a fee of £12,500) as cover for [[Eric Martin (footballer, born 1946)|Eric Martin]], but only made one appearance for the Saints on 20 February 1971 in a 5–1 defeat at [[Manchester United F.C.|Manchester United]]. Four of Manchester United's goals were scored by [[Alan Gowling]].<ref>{{cite book | first1=Duncan |last1=Holley |first2=Gary |last2=Chalk |title=In That Number - A post-war chronicle of Southampton FC | publisher=Hagiology Publishing | year=2003| isbn=0-9534474-3-X}}</ref> He returned to his home town club in May 1972 where he enjoyed several good seasons before emigrating to [[New Zealand]].
